Machining Gunwales for Bob's Special

I recently ordered Bob's Special plans from Bear Mountain. due to space I'd like to do as much machining as possible before I start stripping, including the gunwales. I have some 16' ash boards, does anyone know if they will be long enough?? I'm not opposed to scarf joints, just rather use one piece...

Shear line of Bob's Speial

When viewing the "photos by model" of the Bobs special, It appears to me that there is a fair amount of variation in the shear line of these boats.... where these all built from Bear Mountain plans? is there that much room for interpretation when laying out the shear line? I recently order...

how does the Bob's Special do in rivers?? I think that until I build a bigger boat, the 15' canoe will work, although it will be tight.

I am preparing to build my first strip built canoe, and am having a hard time finding clear WRC in Sacramento or Bay Area. Also cannot find Spruce at all. Any Ideas??
