I don't think they are THAT bad. I think of them as the layout line usually left on hand-cut dovetails

And it's my first boat... i'm keeping it simple

Using a pneumatic upholstery stapler to tack down strips

Not sure if this is a good idea, since the staples can be quite long
Has anyone tried this?

Yeah I read nick schade's book
The bear mountain method with the strongback below the boat and using the sheer clamps seems to be the easier method.. but i guess i'm open to either one

what are your thoughts on the goergian bay?

But the plans for the caspian don't seems to be as good as those for the bear mountain boats
I also wanted to do it in the split/scew together method to simplify glassing the interior

I'm a lightweight, about 5'8 around 155lbs and a novice paddler
I was thinking about making the venture, but maybe the endeavour 17 would be better?
The boat will be used primarily in closed algonquin lakes for day trips

Re: Dual Router setup

If you are only going to make strips for one canoe, you will have your strips done in two passes by the time it take you to set up and dial in two routers. I have made over 20,000 ft of canoe strips and I do it using two shapers. the reason I use two shapers is that shapers are reversible, so I can...

If you look on Pg 48 of kaycraft, fig 4-7 you can see that Ted Moores is using 2 routers and a planer in one setup. His are staggered by a good distance, and one is above the table. This doesn't really make sense to me because the closer they are together, the more consistent the final width of the ...

Dual router setup for cutting bead and cove

well i just bought a second router, so to save time I will set them up so that the bead and cover are cut at the same time

my question is, should I mount them so the cutters are side by side (one above the table, one below) or stagger them and mount them both beneath the table.

does it even matter?

You're going to hate that smell by the time you are done ripping the strips
