I would try sugar ON the varnish rather than IN it.... After yur last coat, sprincle liberally with sugar.... Then when the varnish has cured, you can wash off the sugar, and you will have a matt finish.... :cool

One suggestion to seal the holes.... Install the screws, then remove them... Coat the screws with candle wax... Put some epoxy into the holes, and re-install the waxed screws.... Allow the epoxy to dry, and remove the screws again... Now you will have nice sealed screw holes, that will allow easy re...

If by a "crook" you mean that you look down the length of your strongback, and it appears to take a turn to the right or left, then you are OK.... As long as the surface is level and flat, that should be all that matters.... You should mark a center line with a nice tight string... Al of y...

One more question... Do you think either of these boats would do well with the seat lowered almost to the bottom... I would like to use it more like a kayak with a double paddle... Kind of like a big Rob Roy...
