Cottage Cruiser Stability

Hi, I also own a cottage cruiser so I know the feeling your describing. Here are a few things that have helped us. Add more weight if you can. Thow in some extra gear or a cooler. You never mentioned the weight of the paddlers. My wife and I have a combined weight of about 350#, in high wind or wave...

Has anyone shortened a Rob Roy?

Hi all,

I have been thinking about a smaller solo boat for my wife. I have contemplated trying to shorten a Rob Roy by a foot by removing station 7 or 8. I'm wondering if anyone else has tried this.

Regards,

Ryan

Thanks for all the information. I think I'm going to go with 3/16" outwales like Rick has on his Huron. I tapered one outwale to 5/8 on the outer edge and it still looks clunky. I appreciate everones time in responding .

Ryan

Pitfalls of using thin outwales?

Hi all, I'm contemplating putting thin outwales on my Cottage Cruiser, the full size 3/4 X 3/4 ash looks a little clunky. I'm wondering if other than the obvious ,that it will not turn away much water, if I'm missing some pitfalls? Also, how effective are the outwales at turning away water in actual...

Glen, Thank you for your reply. I'm building a cottage cruiser with 3/4" strip which measure 5/8" from the edge of the bead to the tip of the cove. I did measure the form to get a rough measument of the total number of strips needed. I'll take a measurement today to determine the number to...

Number of strips to the football?

Hi all, I just finished putting the bead and cove on most of my lumber. I have 48 edge grain strips and 15 flat grain strips plus a whole lot of less than full length pieces. I would like to know approx how many strips it takes to get to the football . If I can get there with the 48 strips I have en...
