Your center forms should look like mushrooms in profile. They should have a nearly 1 foot center "riser" then balloon out to the hull shape. Check out page 120 of Canoecraft for reference. To my mind (and my father is an engineer) the tables and pretty much complete lack of step-by-step in...

I built the White Guide in both it's 18.5' and 20' versions. The very bottom of the center molds are flat, and the bow and cheeks are very narrow, for a fine entry and exit point. When I built the 20 footer, I pulled in the sides from 41" to 36" by making the yoke and thwarts a little smal...

Very pretty Yak, Jimmar :applause

You did a nice job laying out the front deck to get those contrasting stripes, and they look great. Hope she paddles well!!

Buy the plastic stuff. It is very realistic looking. I have used it on 4 seats with great success and lots of compliments.

Dennis, I built two White Guides, both of which have (or at least are supposed to have) flat bottoms. I herring-boned both of them as that was the method described in the book I was following. While I like the look, on my next boat I want to try something a little more exotic like Tim did with the c...

Larry,
I think the major challenge for this would be that with WRC, most people use a climb cut to help eliminate tear-out. Don't know how you would do this unless you mounted one router bit up and one bit down.

Will,
Buy Gilpatrick's book, Building a Cedar Strip Canoe. His plans come like that, only they are actually IN THE BOOK, so you have to scale them up yourself. His instructions should be helpful in understanding how the forms and stems inter relate.

Yet ANOTHER thread that makes me glad I build stem-less! :laughing Just kidding. I am actually toying with putting stems on the BMB Prospector I hope to start this winter, but every time a thread like this shows up I always have second thoughts. I guess we'll see if I can ever get back to building.....

Depending on the tumblehome, there may be enough give to just ease it off in the conventional way. If not, remove the center stations from the strong back and twist out after you have flipped the canoe.

Walton, The art of reducing weight is indeed a black one, and from reading the Forum and building two strippers, my belief is that unless you begin planning with weight reduction in mind, you are going to be heavier than the design weights usually listed. If you are in the South or near water, build...

Roger, I am fortunate on my limited budget to own several Lee Valley planes. My absolute favorite is the low angle jack. What a plane!! If you are going to buy only one block plane, My vote would go for the low angle, as I believe it will be more versatile. The low angle will make end grain shaving ...
