Just a thought we used 7" foam rollers to apply the resin and squeegee for the cloth. They are cheep and apply the resin very evenly. The type we used are about 1 1/4" in diameter and have rounded edges. For the fill coats we used the roller to apply and a foam brush to smooth the bubbles ...

I know you have probably already glued up the outer stem and the problem you have is that they wont fit as things are right now. What I propose you do is to laminate the outer stems right onto the boat after you get it stripped. That way you can get the edge of your stem face squared up you can lami...

I would think they should work just fine. Most of us glue the strips together with glue that would come apart when exposed to moisture, but when encased in fiberglass they hold just fine. If they can stand the strip making process they should be great building material. :wink

James,

Another canoe you may want to look at is a Wee Lassie, Its about 11' 6" long and weighs around 30 lbs.

You can find the plans and instructions for it in featherweight boat building. It is allot like the Rob Roy.

Great looking boat. I really like the arched decks. It is so much more attractive than the flat decks I used on my Redbird. I wonder if it's too late to change mine? I have a chainsaw. :thinking Hold the chainsaw :frightened If the boat in your avatar is the one I think is, it looks Ok. :wink The r...

You can still glue them on, it may take a couple of days to do it this way So here goes. I made my outer stem strips 1" x 1/8" (1/8" will bend without steaming) I then trued the end of the cedar so it was flush with the edge of the inside stem, this should give you an edge of 3/4"...

Forming the stem

Robbie, You mentioned that the canoe model you are working on has an inside stem, which means there should be an outer stem correct? Have you glued the strips on already or is your question concerning preparing to glue the strips? I know these are a lot of questions but the answers to your question ...
