On myBob's special I used stainless steel that wraps from stem to stem over the keel.The stainless doesn't tarnish like the brass and is much harder.I bedded is in silicone so I'm not worried about the wood.It's not traditional but I think it looks good.I can drag it up on a dock and not worry about...

Thanks Glen,the bungee system looks like a good option but I really want to try to hinge it.I have tried a few different types of cabinet hinges but none have been quite right.I have a few more to try before I try to make my own.Have you heard of any other options?Thanks ,I will keep you posted with...

hatch hardware?
Hey guys,I am building a Bear Mountain Resolute for my wife.I am working on the hatch right now and I want to do it with no exposed hardware,kind of like a car trunk.Any help on ideas or hardware sources would be appreciated.I have a feeling I will be fabricating everything. thanks

epoxy and 4 oz glass
I just glassed the deck of my resolute this morning .I used 4 oz cloth ,and it looks like 2 coats of epoxy will bury it.Is 2 enough or would you guys recomend 3.Any help would be great.I will try to post some pictures.

laminating gunwales?
has anybody laminated gunwales on a curved form instead of using a scarf joint?it seems to me that you could use 1/4" strips ,like the stem,and stagger the joints.I had 3 scarf joints snap ,i didn't think i starved the joint but now i am gunshy to try again. thanks for any advice! :thinking

thanksfor the help.another question is the direction of the joint.mine were verticle,looking from the top down you see the joint.should they be horizontal,visible from the side?my other thought was to run a glue joint router bit alonng the scarf to increase surface area and glue with titebond ll. :t...
