Thanks Greg. Many articles I'm reading on the internet recommnend using WD-40 as a cleaning agent. Doesn't that contain silicone and shouldn't be used?

Thanks,
Mike

Glen, Here's a picture just about finished: http://s257.photobucket.com/albums/hh217/mvettori/Fishing%20Net/?action=view&current=LandingNet005.jpg The net I'm currently using is too small ( if you look close you can tell ) , but I think I found one this morning should fit. I used a Tung Oil Varn...

That's beautiful Glen! Mine's a little bigger. The bow is about 10" x 16"...wishful thinking I guess! :twisted evil Actually, that was the size of the tennis racquet I used as the mold. :laughing Here's a pic. It's still rough and needs some more shaping and sanding before I finish it. htt...

Thanks Glen. I didn't use any thickeners other than sawdust for color. I'll try your suggestion of rasping down the heavy stuff then passing it through the planer a few times. I'll try to minimize the amount of each cut to reduce the strain on the blades.

Can hardened epoxy damage portable planer blades?

I am in the process of making a bentwood trout net. I have steam bent and laminated the frame and epoxied the laminates to the handle. I'd like to pass the frame through my planer to clean up the edges and make it uniform on both sides. However, I'm not certain if the hardened epoxy will damage the ...

Kayaking

I have a couple of newbie questions about kayaking. I finished my Bob's Special last summer and I'm having the best time taking it out with my kids on day trips. I still get he biggest smile hearing all the comments from people as I paddle by! :smile Many thanks gain to all those who answered my que...

Portable Planer vs. Planer/Jointer

A question for the carpenters out there... I have a few dollars to spend and I'm looking to add to my workshop. I've been spending a lot of money lately at the local mill getting wood planed down for different projects, so I'd like to invest in a planer. I heard in different circles that a 6" p...

Kerry, Is there a reason you want to put it back on the molds? Once its glassed inside and out, the hull will be rigid enough that the molds shouldn't be needed any longer. You could simply rest the hull across a pair of horses. You might want the station mold 0 in place just to keep the shape (the ...

Kerry,

She's looking good. Nice job so far. I just put my 16' Bob in the water a few weeks ago. The destination makes the journey worthwhile. it won't be long before you got it in the water and getting all kinds of looks from passers by!

Enjoy it!

Installing the Seats

I am soooo close to putting this thing in the water! :twisted evil I'm at the part of installing the seats. I've read that lower is better for stability, but too low is uncomfortable to the paddler. Is there a rule of thumb for how far off of the bottom the seats should hang? Currently, the top of m...

Thanks Glen!

I've seen posts where people mention both Lacquer Thinnner and Acetone for cleanup. Is there a difference between the two?
