Re: Moving - how to store strips

Thanks Jim,
That helped. Wrapped some heavy construction paper on the edge of the strip bundle to protect the concave bead edges, then shrink wrapped. Hopefully it will survive the move.
Thanks for the tip

Moving - how to store strips

Good Day,
We are moving and I have strips left over from my last build that I want to safely move. Most are 16' long. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Re: How to repair ding/dent/bruise in glassed hull

Thanks for the response Rod. I had already gone ahead and sanded the spot down to the glass. When I wetted it with some laquer thinner it looked really good, so I went ahead and refilled the spot level with expoxy. Well the "bruise" still showed, so obviously your suggestion of going down ...

How to repair ding/dent/bruise in glassed hull

Last fall I finished my Prospector, and it has been patiently waiting in my shop for spring to be launched. With maybe only a week or so to go, I managed to drop a board from an overhead lumber rack, and ding the hull. I suspect my pride suffered more damage, but never the less, I do want to try to ...

southern Ontario source for cherry gunwale stock

I was planning on getting some Cherry stock for the gunwales this week, but Exotic Woods is out of it.
Any recommendations for another source in southern or south western Ontario? I would prefer long boards to avoid having to do scarf joints.

Thanks

Thanks Matthew.
I used West System, so blush is not an issue. Obviously sanding the couple of areas where I can feel the glass weave pattern would have to be done very lightly.
I thought I had to sand to allow a new coat of epoxy to achieve a mechanical bond?

fixing epoxy mistakes.

Hello, A few weeks ago I glassed the outside of my Prospector. This is my first build. I thought at the time it went well despite my nervousness of this process. However there are some flaws. 1. There are a few "stripes" showing where you can see where I epoxied in sections. I thought I br...

Thanks Glen, that helps. Now that its warm enough to get back out in the garage, I am anxious to get going again. My concern is that transition point where the strips start being trimmed perpendicular to the stem as opposed to parallel to the face of the stem. I am a few inches away from that I beli...

Glen,
This thread had a link to some of your pics regarding leaving the mortice for the outer stem, but the link is now broken. Do you have them somewhere else?

I am getting close to applying the strips in this area and want to make sure I get it right.

Thanks,
Dave

Larry & Rick, Thanks for the replies. I see there is an older post by Glen Smith stating "With paper plans, the dimension can vary by as much as + or - 1/16" depending on the humidity", so maybe thats where the 1/16" came from. Sure is odd though. I will go with the 12" ...

Prospector Station 7

I am beginning to set up up the station molds for a Prospector 16, and have run into 2 issues with station #7. - The plans indicates 12" mold spacing, yet the stem pattern shows the placement of #7 at 12 1/16"; which is correct? - When I set #7 station against the stem mold, it is actually...

Dave, Thanks for that, I had considered trying some re-enforce strips. In think with it lying flat, and I light misted the concave side once, it has flatten somewhat. So maybe with some re-enforcing at least some it may be usable. I wanted to get the molds cut this weekend and also start bending the...

Aspen plywood for station molds

Several weeks ago I got a good deal on some Aspen plywood. I picked up a couple of sheets of 3/4" for the strong back, and a couple of sheets of 1/2" for the station molds. I brought it home and to save space stood it up against the wall. A mistake I suspect. When I started 2 weeks ago, I ...
