Maybe...

I am in Green Bay and interested in the forms. If I can find a reason to head south I might take you up on the offer.

You must be pretty close to the WI border?

Pain in the Glass

Whatever you do, DON't compare your kayak to your wife by saying, "this boat is just like you...It looks great from a distance." My goal for this project has been to make something that looks and floats like a cedar strip kayak. I gave into the fact that it would not be perfect but instead...

Thanks Snowman

II went with the "who's going to see it" philosophy. When I was deciding on my first project, I wondered if a canoe would be better to learn how than a kayak. My thinking was that making the top would somehow make the project more involved than just building a hull of a canoe. What I have ...

Kayak Inside Sanding

Yes, I'm sick of sanding!!! I'm almost embarrassed to ask, but how good is "good enough" when sanding the inside of a kayak? Obviously whatever will be seen should look it's best, but the inner parts really only need to be fair enough to hold the resin/glass....right? I know, I know... I w...

Just one more plug for the plans

I know it has been a while since the original post, but I want to add one more vote to the "just buy the plans" tally. I lofted from the book and did remarkably well for my first time trying. I too was confused by the stems which made me fork over the money for the plans. I am glad I did s...

New Clear Cedar thanks

Thanks guys. How much quicker do you think the tarp/fan/dehumidifier set up would be than the stack it outside method? It has been pretty dry in N.E. Wisconsin this summer so I'm assuming continued dry weather. (I can almost hear the thunder now) I went with the white cedar because it cost about 1/4...

Newly cut White Cedar

I just bought about 80 board feet of clear, straight grain Wisconsin White cedar fresh from the mill for $120. In the process I am afraid I not only found some beautiful wood, but also put a halt to my progress for the next few months (plus winter). The guy at the mill said that before milling, the ...

sheer clamp

Just a small clarification.

Do you follow the profile of the hull with the outer edge of the "stick", or do you keep it perpendicular to the WL?

Thanks again for you picture and quick response!

Kayak (Endeavour) Sheer Clamp cutout

Even though the book doesn't do the best job of showing the lofting process I have (I think) had luck drawing and cutting my forms. BUT, how to line up the notches for the sheer clamp has me a bit befuddled. It looks like I should use a 3/4 x 7/8" block lined up with the form edges (deck and hu...
