Big Woody In retrospect I wish I had not used any strips with knots in them. I thought they would add a nice bit of character, but they now just seem to make my canoe look like it was made from cheap lumber.(which it was) IMHO - beauty is in the eye of the beholder! I like the look of having the kno...

Thanks Tim. Your kind words are much appreciated. I have visited your page in the past. Nice job also! I have a couple of canoe trips planned for this summer, and likely another build late summer / early fall. The herringbone was MUCH easier than I had expected. Nobody should be hesitant to give it ...

Hi Dennis, Figured I'd chime in here too. I used the herringbone method to close in the football. Wouldn't do it any other way. Much stronger (although not an issue once glassed, but it holds things together until that time) - added appeal (looks better - in my humble opinion). If you build with the...

Back from our maiden voyage. Canoe functioned as expected. I was a bit concerned about the initial stability, but it was very reasonable to paddle and we didn't find it too tippy. My wife did express some concern about there not being too much room for her in the bow, but other than that, a very enj...

Thanks Jim (and All). I glassed the inside and then installed the inner gunnels...same as the outside - glassed first - then gunnels. Although my pics don't show too much detail.. I still have a few runs in the varnish - will sand final next spring - getting too cold for varnishing. The gunnels are ...
