kayak cockpit cover
I have an Endeavor 17 kayak with a keyhole-shaped cockpit. Can anyone steer me to a supplier that might have one that fits correctly?

Re: Strip length for Endeavour 17
I just finished an Endeavor 17 and used 18 ft. strips. They worked out fine. In fact, the little extra length on each end, before trimming, came in handy when trying to clamp/coerce strips onto frames, especially around the tight curves of the forms.

Endeavor 17 Sheer Guard
I just completed construction on an Endeavor 17 kayak and am ready for varnishing.
Question - Is it better to coat the sheer guard with epoxy before varnishing, or should I just apply varnish over the bare wood?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Re: History of cedar stripping
I don't exactly remember where I read it now, but I seem to recall reading some time ago that Penn Yan boats pioneered the commercial use of this technique back in the 1940's.

Re: shaping stems
I used a spokeshave and a small handplane to shape the stems on my 17' kayak. I carefully followed the instructions in Ted's book "KayakCraft" about shaping the stem, especially about not trying to shape too much of the stem at one time (3 or 4 strips worth worked for me). Shaping tool nee...

Epoxy/Fiberglass thickness
I'm building a 17' Endeavor kayak and am wondering if I have enough fiberglass/epoxy thickness on the hull. Has anyone ever measured this thickness, or have any information on the approximate thickness?

Careful use of a small pair of needle-nose pliers should work well.

Thanks for the quick response Alan. I've concluded that I should buy the plans also. I don't think it's worth the time (and aggravation) involved to have to go back and rebuild mold stations that are in error due to possible mistakes in the published offset tables. As a point of interest, I'd sure l...
