Wee Lassie
I'm still looking for my next project. I'd like to build something small (12-13ft), light enough for me to move easily on my own - a real puddle jumper. The Wee Lassie looks fun, but would it be a good choice for a single paddle style boat rather than paddled sitting kayak style? I weigh 190lbs (exc...

removing uncured varnish
Well, after the succesful launch last week (http://www.bearmountainboats.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=1297) I've hit a problem. In patches throughout the inside of the hull the varnish has rubbed and appears not to have cured. I've searched the archives, but haven't really found a reason why this has ...

I've just finished a Prospector (see http://www.bearmountainboats.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=1297) and am considering my next project (after the garden and the house, which are but minor details...). Currently I'm thinking about: (a) a paddleboard (b) the "Minnie Miss" that was posted here...

Well, she's on the roof of the car and ready for her first trip tomorrow. Red Fox (the working title seems to have stuck, although the gaelic, Ruadh Mhadaidh, will probably go on the nameplate) was due to have her maiden voyage today, but an accident with a builder, a backhoe and a water main put pa...

Hi Bill I've literally just put the final coat of varnish on a cedar strip Prospector up in Aberdeenshire this afternoon. I used a mixture of bought strips from Robbins in Bristol (already milled) and strips I ripped myself from some cedar boards I picked up cheap from our joiner (we were building a...

Sorry Gary - I missed out the <sarcasm> and </sarcasm> tags. It sounds such an interesting techique I was wondering why it wasn't possible just to build the football first, since the sheer line can be cut independently? Build it using your method to a certain size referenced on the plans/stations. N...

I'm building a 16' Prospector from Canoe Craft. Its' the biggest DIY undertaking ever - I can barely saw to a line. I suspect the boat will be an excellent reflection of my abilities, but it's getting there. I will be glassing the interior this week, all the trim (ash) is complete and has been dry f...
