Freedom 17' 9"- Am I alone?

I've got the plans and have the parts for the strong back cut. However, I have been doing some searching on this site and not finding many posts that relate to the Freedom 17' 9". I am curious if many people have built this design, and if they are happy with it. I'm not having second thoughts o...

Has anyone ever stained a boat?

I'm not saying that I would want to, but I am curious if anyone has ever stained a boat prior to glassing? Would the epoxy work properly if it were stained? (I'm picturing a "Wild Cherry" color in my mind thinking it would be pretty neat looking.)

I used regular white Elmers school glue on my Prospector. Worked just fine.

17' 9" Freedom Strong Back and Strip Length?

Hello,
How long should the top of the strong back be for a 17' 9" Freedom?
Also, How long is the longest strip?

Thanks!

Hey Glen,
I just thought of something. Do you think it is so you have an extended "guide" when gluing the strips to the top on the bow and stern to keep the haul lines true being it is at the same curve as the rest of station #2?

Thanks,

Glen,
I understand your answer, but the reason I am questioning it, is because station #2 is actually drawn wider than the regular 6" (12" wide overall) bases at the other stations (Your answer would make sense if it was drawn narrower like the #1 or #0 stations.)

Western Red Cedar Source In Minneapolis Area?

Does anyone know of a good source for 19-20' "Clear" western red cedar in the Minneapolis area? or anywhere in MN or Western Wisconsin?

Thanks!

Freedom 17'9" Plan Question

Hello,
I was going over the full sized station drawings and was wondering why station #2 has it's own mold extention line, insead of sharing the 6" line at stations 3-8? Is there a reason it should hang over the strongback, or am I missing something?

Thanks,

I'll have to see if I can get any good shots of it, and post them. I did sand the haul about 4 years ago and gave it another coat of epoxy. I want to say that it appears to get cloudy when it has been wet for a while, but doesn't appear to have any cracks, and I can't see any signs of the wood getti...

Tim,
I do have "Canoecraft". However, I have decided to go with the Freedom 17' 9" and have purchased plans. which should be in the mail tomorrow. Thanks for the offer anyway, and good luck with the Redbird!

I guess now that you mention it, the bottom of the haul does seem to be a bit cloudy. (Under the water line) What does this mean?

Thanks,
