The final shape is a large arc. The first number is the point at the bottom of the arc, while the second number is the point at the top of the arc.

Great video!!! I just put on the first coat of varnish on the hull of our Prospector this morning. We hope for the first launch next weekend. Your video reminded me of many of the steps that we went through to build ours. One thing your video is missing is the many hours of sanding! Your canoe looks...

My son and I just glassed the interior of our Prospector last weekend. We laid the glass over the hull of the canoe and used a scissor to cut it about 2 inches below the shear. At the ends we cut it to roughly end at the inside stem. We continued this cut down the centre until the end of the stem. W...

Another valuable resource online is http://tinyurl.com/4vpdza . I found the section Fibreglassing 101 to be very helpful.

I ordered my materials from Peerless Rattan. They have instructions on their website. Regarding the holes, there is a chart on this page of their website which gives the options for the size and distance of holes. http://www.peerlessrattan.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.browse&...

I don't know if you've figured out the problem. But you can use the tip I offered at this link to increase the height of the forms. http://www.bearmountainboats.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=3515 I drew up my stations from an earlier edition of Canoecraft. In it it states that the strongback line is 2 ...

Thanks for your replies. Thanks also for the photos. Patrick's Dad - Yes, I did taper the stem, mortised the cedar down to the inner stem, and epoxied it together. Big Woodie - thanks for the photos, which help to visualize what I must do. I will plane them down and fair them to the shape of the can...

Thank you for your replies. I see that I made an error in my title and message. I've edited and corrected it. My question has to do with the outer stem; not keel. The pictures are of the stem, not the keel. Please take another look and offer your suggestions. Thanks!

Prospector Outer Stem Shape

I've researched Canoecraft and many web sites to find this information. It's hard to find a photo or a definitive answer. I'm not sure how to shape the outer stem at the bottom to flow with the rest of the canoe. Also. I'm concerned that it will be difficult to get the fiberglass to bond in the conc...

Centering Formers

I glued small sticks to the centerlines of each former. I then used these to ensure that the formers were centered. A taught line next to the small sticks allowed me to check for accuracy and readjust as needed. The sticks were broken away when the planking neared the top (bottom). Mervin Friesen Ch...

Inner Stem

I decided to make my inner stem about 1" longer and run it past the former. I notched out the former to fit the stem. The advantage was that the stem was locked in place and ensured that the it stayed centered. Mervin Friesen Chestnut Prospector http://i980.photobucket.com/albums/ae290/Friesen5...

1/2 Sheet Ply for Formers

The book Canoecraft suggests cutting plywood in half to make formers. There are a number of posts on this forum which suggest that ply cut into half sheets leaves the formers too short. I decided to scrimp a bit and cut the ply in half. When I drew the formers onto the 1/2 sheets, I intentionally cu...
