Re: help needed/wanted?

I wish you luck. If I was closer, I'd offer my help. I've found that one extra set of hands is about right. Too many, especially holding beer cans creates trouble. On my last boat, I mixed and applied most of the epoxy myself and even though there were a few stressful moments, for the most part it w...

Re: My health

May good luck be with you through this. You'll be in my thoughts. Thank you, my friend. If you PM me an address, I'll send you a copy of my books to help with those long hours in the waiting rooms.

If you have a cabinet scraper, sharpen it and get after those runs while it's still green. Just watch the weave poking through. You will thank yourself later. Matthew

Well, I'm trying to figure out what to do. I want to start another canoe. But.... I might have to switch gears. My wife and I have decided we want to do some sailing between PNW and Alaska in a few years so I might need to build a little dory. It's tough because I also really want to build another c...

I'm not sure if your house is like mine but we have lots of old (or could be old) blankets. My wife saves them to give the dog a snug bed in the winter. Cover that steel door and plastic sheet with as many layers as you can. Much better than just a plastic sheet. I have also gone to the fabric store...

I assume you asked about a double blade paddle. I am doing a loose copy of one I borrowed from a friend (it's plastic). I bought some double paddle ferrules from Duckworks to make it adjustable, so they can be broken down for storage and transport and so I can use short boards. http://www.duckworksb...

On the day of our maiden voyage we took the opportunity to practice self rescue. It was a refresher for my wife and I and oldest daughter but for our younger children it was a lesson for sure. If you have children, practice with them. Practice with another boat handy in case things go bad. Tie the b...

I used a hot glue gun to put a glue wedge in the corner between the strips and the form in problem areas. Push the strip into place and glue it. In a few minutes you can remove whatever clamp you used and carry on. Make the gob of glue big enough to grab with pliers and when you remove the forms pul...

I'm sorry I missed the few weeks ago part. From the West web site. "Epoxy surfaces that have not fully cured may be bonded to or coated with epoxy without washing or sanding. amine blush may appear as a wax-like film on cured epoxy surfaces. It is a by-product of the curing process and may be m...

What resin and hardener did you use. In my limited experience, I think I would wash the heck out of it with green scotch brite pads and water to remove any blush, dry well, and put on another coat or two or three of build epoxy before I sanded. Sanding bare cloth I think is going to make things wors...

Very pretty. You should be very proud! I like the feature strip and the football, the maple contrast is beautiful. In short order you should be able to get it wet. (and scratched) It makes me want to start another. I’ll have to get things in order and start looking at designs. You made me smile Dave...
