Tim,
I recently spoke with Earl at L.L. Johnson Lumber in Charlott and they have long lengths of WRC. Their number 1-800-292-5937 ext. 305. Fingerle Lumber in Ann Arbor also stocks long lengths of WRC. Ask for Joe Eadie 1-800-365-7701

I built a C.W. winter of 2003. For the middle two seats I used scrap lumber and did some trial and error cuts to obtain a flush meeting to the hull. It only took a couple cuts for each seat so I didn't waste much wood. The forward and stern seats were the most difficult to fit. I used 3/4 IN. plywoo...

Danny, Randy makes a good point. When sanding the precoat it can be difficult to obtain an even result. One area might get sanded a little more than another and you'll end up with a blotchy effect. I precoated my first two boats and that happened. My next two no precoat and no blotchy effect. Like R...

Peter, Don't risk safety to save time by gang ripping. I can rip enough strips to plank a canoe or small rowboat in 2 to 3 hours. Enlist your spouse or a friend to collect and stack the strips after they clear the blade. Gang ripping would only save me an hour or so. Not worth the risk of something ...

Phil, I needed to overlap several sections of cloth both inside and outside when I built my Cosine Wherry. Each coat needed to cure and then be sanded back before the next section. I also thought those overlaps would be a real mess but after all the coats of epoxy were on, sanded, and varnished you ...

pbrown, I'm afraid your going to see some strap inprint. Last spring I applied 4 coats to the bottom of my Bob, allowed 2 weeks of drying indoors, and still had some inprint. You will probably be adding more coats later so the inprint may cover up. I've been using leather strips under my straps to a...

Jeff, I've always started my spacing layout from the middle of the canoe and worked out to the ends. Six inches of solid for the yoke and then adjust the spacing to cover where the seat hangers will be. If the spacing is a little different from the yoke to the bow seat than the yoke to the stern sea...
