U.V. Damage
Hi,
I have got some dark patches on the hull of my 10 year old Peterborough, could this be the first signs of U.V. damage.
Thanks in anticipation,
Richard

Hi Ester,
Have you started building your cedar stripper yet?
If you are interested I am thinking of setting up a UK builders group, and seeing as you are close I thought I would drop you a mail.

Re: Hiawatha 15.5 stability?
Hi, I paddle a Hiawatha, and initally, after a Peterborough it did feel unstable. But if you persevere you will start to feel more at home. My first trip after I had finished the build was two days down a fairly gentle river solo. The first few miles certainly focused the mind, but as my confidence gr...

18th century birchbark canoe
Has the news reached Canada about the 18th century birchbark canoe which has been found on a country estate in Cornwall in England. It was brought back by a military man about 250 years ago, and lay undiscovered until recently. It will be put on display in the British Museum in London and then retur...

Hiawatha on Google Earth
Hi, Big show off but I couldn't help it. Type in Bridge Sollers U.K. and just left of the village in the middle of the river you will see a photo marked 'Cedar boat on still Wye'. My latest build and im over the moon with everything about it. She handles like a dream except in windy conditions, but ...

Hi, I'm no expert on timber, but I have used Meranti for decks and paddles and thwarts and have been pleased with the results. I'ts a mahogany species which is very light with a good colour. However, it is soft and needs protection from one or two layers of glass and epoxy. You could add extra layer...

Thanks everyone for your input. Nice Prospector Dennis. I built a Peterborough eight years ago, but unfortunately I canibalized the forms to make the Hiawatha. If this friend of mine does not want to give the time to make new forms then I think a combination of extra length and a few more strips for...

Hi Ben, Thanks for your thoughts. This boat will not be for me ,I am very happy paddling my Hiawatha solo, and think it is a great design. The friend who wants to use my forms is looking for greater carrying capacity. He will have to weigh up the pros and cons from these posts and make his decision....
