Thanks David.. That was my first canoe (hopefully not my last) and I did spend a lot of time putting the page together.. to think i took over 700 photos during construction! Thats like adding a few hours to the project! A photo every half hour of construction! (i wish it was spaced that way) Thanks ...

Thanks Glen

Thanks Glen... I've relied on yours and others experience to build my boat.. and was hoping that fine folk like yourself could take the time (over a period of time) to add to the website to make it a place that others could use as a reference tool. Thanks for the peek.. come back as often as you lik...

after many "years" of construction... and over a year in the water.. the canoe is old news.. but I just finished making the web page for it. (50 hrs? over 3 months) Almost 600 photos of canoe construction.. 12 months worth of consecutive paddling accounts... (in Maine!) Two paddle making g...

600 construction photos, giving back to the forum.

First off.. let me thank the fine folx here that helped me with my project.. more than you know. I've been "lurking" here for a long time.. hardly asking any questions b/c they've already been asked AND answered. In my own way of giving back to this community, I've built a web site of my c...

Oil *AND* varnish??

I just finished a bent-shaft paddle (website coming soon) and used Watco Tung Oil on it.. its "ok" but I guess I'm looking for a little more shine/protection. The can says I can over coat with a "poly" (maybe just theirs?) Has anyone done this? Is this a bad idea? Currently the o...

Ditto

What Erich said.. my wifes grandfather came up with this idea.. great (woodworking) minds think alike??

Between the ash stem steam bending and the seats.. it's a toss up which was the most fun of the whole project!

Varnish won't fill it..

i just read on the net somewhere that you shouldn't depend on varnish to fill the voids..

I'm having personal experience with that right now.. i've added 3 coats and it's not touching some of the "dimples".

You may need to add a small batch of epoxy.. but i'm not the expert.

Do both..

Steve.. I just finished the Ranger.. <yee-haa> but I'd take both of these guys advice.. lower the legs and raise the molds.. my forms could have been raised with the correct strongback.. it was tight on the ends. As far as it being too low.. i wouldn't worry too much about that.. the sheer goes toge...

[[ I finally registered!!! ]] Thanks Erich.. I have a 'salamander' heater that I've been using.. I may run it long enough to get the garage to temp and then shut it off until the vapors are cleared out... sound safe enough? We should be at nearly 70F this week here in Maine so I'm think It may take ...
