Hi Glen,
Thanks for the advice. What you said is what the book says. It just seems a bit ambiguous to me, a first time builder; could you better define a "fair" surface?
I suppose a close up color photograph of the desired surface would more easily convey the idea.
Thanks

Question: Sanding Epoxy
Greetings, I am at the stage where i have just sanded the epoxy on the outside of the hull. Now i am looking at the hull and i'm not sure if i sanded enough. Question: How long (more or less) does one spend sanding with the 80 grit sandpaper? With the 120 grit? The hull now has a lot of white areas ...

Re: fiberglass at stems
Glen, cutting the cloth to fit tight in that joint makes sense in hindsight, however this is my first build and i've been following the guidelines in CanoeCraft. I'm on page 149 under the heading "The Fiberglass Sheath" and i'm not seeing that! Am i losing my mind?! I've since applied the ...

fiberglass at stems
I am in the process of glassing the outside of the hull. I just finished the 2nd coat. I am noticing that the cloth is not sitting down tight against the hull where the stem and hull meet on the bottom.
Do i need to cut the cloth to get it to lay down tight in that joint?

sanding & sheathing
Hi everyone, I have two questions: 1. I'm preparing to "raise the grain". Must the hull be free of all epoxy filler stains before i raise the grain? 2. I'm confused as to how much epoxy i will need for sheathing the hull. Page 75 of CanoeCraft states "2 gallons epoxy resin and hardene...

Re: Shaping outer stems
Hi Glen,
Are we talking about the same thing? I am referring to the outer stems, and when i clicked on the link you provided it refers to the inner stems. I did use that technique
for the inner stems. Are you saying it works for the outer stems as well?

Shaping outer stems
Hey everybody, i have a question regarding shaping the outer stems on a Ranger. So far i have used a spokeshave and low angle block plane shaping the vertical parts of the outer stems. But as the stems curve over the hull, the two aforementioned tools seem to lose their efficacy. Any advice on shapi...
