a longer steaming time helps, i had the same problem over and over, steaming them for 45 min or 1h will help alot!

jip, i love padouk also :) its a very special type of wood, just love the coulour of it! i'm using it in the planking also, i wonder what it will look like when finished, after the glassing and all, just hope its not to bright but i think it will look very nice, dont you? :) heres where i am now, fi...

well i did everything possible to prevent them from snapping but it didnt work, i soaked them in water, i even steamed them 2 times in a row, but still they would break, i think i made a bad choice of wood but here i am now and the stems are finaly glued together.. i didnt try using a sacrificial st...

i'm doing them seperate because i spent all my strips on the inside stems, i had a lot of trouble with it because they broke almost every time, this wood is not easy to bend and also the stems of the freedom have a sharper angle.. if i need new strips i have to make extra time to go make them.. so i...

i think i go with the hardwood inside stems afterall, ive bent and glued the now so i will use them , hope this will not be a problem, just a little harder to shape them but thats oke for me, its good practice..

this is the system i'm using to steam the wood, its a steam generator that is used to take down wallpaper, connected to an alluminium tube (for the stove)..

no its padouk, hardwood, i thought it was necessary to make all stems in hardwood?? my mistake then.. thanx for the tip!!! i will sure go better to shape them!

well its easier for sure and it goes faster but i'm affraid i will not get the holes filled nicely if i use staples, i read about filling them with water so they close again, but i don't trust that method.. i think i wouldnt like the end result and blame myself i didnt use the "non staple' tech...

i think you can only do that method if you use staples at the ends no? if you would clamp the ends together you would not be able to put the outside stem on proper.. my plan is not to use any staples so i go for the inside stem, maybe my next canoe i can do like this, if i have some more exp with it...
