Birchbark canoebuilding on BBC Prime
Yesterday night when I zapped through the tv-channels I came across a programme on building a birchbark canoe, Ray Mears Bushcraft on BBC Prime. This time he was in an indian aerea (in Canada??), building a canoe the traditional way. He was instructed by an indian, (did`nt get his name, think it was...

Gunwales
Just finnished glueing gunwales an decks on my new Prospector, using thickened epoxy. Now I`m not sure if I should use (brass)screws or wooden plugs to strenghten the installation or just leave it the way it is. I think wooden plugs would look good, but need advise on drilling through both in and ou...

He is still my friend, but I am sure he will not borrow any canoe from me in the future. It is careless to leave anything unsecured on a riverbed, he could have tied it to a rock or something or carried it in to the forest. It seems like his insuranse will cover, he is now in a discussion over value...

The sad remainds of my Prospector
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/hovland/Kanokajakk%20div%20bygging/Prospectorvrak_stor.jpg This summer a friends asked if he could borrow my canoe for a few weeks when I was at work in the North Sea. I said ok. His farm borders a fine riverstretch in Verdalselva (Verdal River). We had a warm...

Kanokajakksiden is back!
Yes, finaly. With a new ending, but still the same page. I have had all sorts of problems with my page and webaccount/ domain the last months. Another bottom, knotless sprouce, the white wood is aspen and the brown one is Norwegian black alder. Only sealercoat yet, had to heat the location to do this, hope to get high enough temperatures to do wetout and fillercoats in early april. http://www.kanokajakksiden.info/images/Bottom-stor.jpg GeirB

My experience is the same. On my last project, a Prospector I used two layers of cloth on the outside, so that there was a 20cm stripe on each side covered with one layer and bottom and the rest of the sides where covered with two layers. This means the canoe will be heavier and as far as I understa...
