i used 3/8", the first batch i ordered was 3/16" and as glen described it had a convex and a concave side, it was very rough. the 3/8" was very smooth and nice. a light sanding after lacing and before finishing is a must, makes it sooo smooth to the hand its unbelivable. i dont think ...

Thanks Glen. I think i will try something like this before i go and cut it off as this would be a pile of work. i was thinking about putting in a dowel across the crack also, so that if the crack does continue, it would be held together untill i got back.

So you are suggesting to completely remove the broken one from the seat? the problem is... how would i remove the rawhide? a freind told me that i might be able to take a fine drill bit and drill at the end of the split to ensure it wont continue and to flow some epoxy into the crack and leave it th...

Hello, I am hoping to find some insight and help. after my first trip where we were playing alot in the boat (we fliped her a few times while playing around) the bow seat has delvelloped a large split, comming from the bolt hole and running on an angle towards the tennon joint. A mat is fine if you dont mind portaging the thing, personally id rather take more beer than a mat. Next time i would do as glen suggested, sprinkle it in. i spent the whole week end soloing my boat, and it was rough on my knees. so by sprinkling it in, you could skip over the area that you would be...

the instructions for this product were to put the product straight into the varnish and stir it well. i am sure you could sprinkle it on afterwards, but like glen said, it would all be right on top and may be too gritty.

I searched and searched the web, phone calls to places, probably in all i spent several hours trying to find better instructions. all you have to do to follow the WHCA instructions is look at the drawings of the specific knots, the first loop (make a slit and pull threw) and each subsequent knot are...

I looked at the watco products, this really is more of a varnish than an oil, is it not? if your worried about blisters, some manufacturers will leave the grip unvarnished, and they will oil the grip. I have a turtle paddle like this, and it is very very nice on your hand, much less prone to blister...

I also purchased from Dave Bernstrom. Very very EXCELLENT service and products. You can select what type of hide you want, he cuts it for you and ships it quickly. He did exactly what he said he would when he said he would, and his products are A1. See some photos of my seats, i used 3/8" lace....

yes i did... but i have reason to believe it is about 4-6 lbs heavy. the scale said 68lbs, but i weighed my daughter the day before on a different scale it read 34lbs and on this scale it said 38lbs, so i am guessing if it is a liniarity issue the weight of the boat is out by 4-6lbs. I knew it would...

bryan, i have not had it wet yet. Tom, who makes these seats talkes about some big excursions with his seats, he uses these exclusivly in the boats he makes, so i have faith in them. I soaked it really well in neets foot oil, it is quite water proof. Bryan, can i ask how the heck you were able to st...
