Re: Hiking seats for Sailing Canoe
Snowman- Haven't finished it yet. The canoe is almost complete, recently hung the seats, this Spring when it warms up I have some sanding and varnishing (well a lot of varnishing). I still have a couple components for the sailing rig to finish and I am currently learning how to sew my own sails. The...

Re: Strips added to the hull incorrectly
I guess I should have clarified that I would be adding a strip of fiberglass cloth. I have glassed the inside and everything seems pretty solid, so I'll probably just leave it the way it is.

Re: A canoe 40 years in the making.
I'll be making the mast and spars myself, but I having the sails made. I am doing a 6 month hiking trip in the spring so, I won't be on the water until August. I am really looking forward to it though.

A canoe 40 years in the making.
My dad started this canoe in 1969 and production has been stalled for 3 decades. We are now finishing it and hope to have it in the water next year! Check out the pics! https://picasaweb.google.com/117994891827475881478/CanoeProgress?authuser=0&feat=directlink Let know what you think. Sincerely-...

Re: Strips added to the hull incorrectly
Thanks everyone for your replies.
We're going to add a small strip on the inside of the hull, on both sides in the bow, just to be on the safe side.

Strips added to the hull incorrectly
Canoe builders- My dad built the hull of a wood strip canoe, but when he was striping it, instead of forcing the planks to the stem when the sides became the bilge he started trimming them before they got to the stem. Re: laminating gunwales
I am having the exact same problem, here in La Crosse, WI. The solution that my dad and I came up was also to laminate the gunwales. There isn't much upsweep to the canoe, but enough that it could cause problems. I was thinking of laminating the boards with offsets to train them into shape before pu...

Norm Harris Canoe
Has anyone ever built or seen a Norm Harris Canoe? I am finishing up a Norm Harris 16 ft canoe with my dad. He glassed the outside of the hull with polyester resin a couple decades ago, and production has been stalled ever since. We're going to finish it with west system epoxy. Here are some picture...

Hiking seats for Sailing Canoe
Here is an idea I had for adding hiking seats to a sailing canoe I am building. First one of the things that I decided I would like was scuppered inwales. I think they look neat and have the added bonus of drainage plus lashing your gear. I am also planning on tapering them towards the ends. I decid...
