I presume you have sold the bits by now, but I wanted to know what bits are recommended?
Still have bits, all they have done in last few years is collect dust. $ 30.00 for the set. I'll ship them anywhere in USA or Canada. contact me direct at pxwest@gmail.com if interested.
I have been a member here for the last 10 + years and have built a Peterbourough Cedar Strip from Ted's First edition of CanoeCraft. Also a 16 FT. Drift Boat boat with cedar strip sides as opposed to conventionl marine plywood. This forum was a blessing for me as I was a rookie in the art of boat bu...
Another point to consider: The shock loads the stem sees in normal use can impart high stress on the laminated stem. If for any reason there is a failure in the coating encapsulating the laminated stem your going to have major problems with anything other Epoxy. TB III, Gorilla Glue and all the othe...
Mr. CH I have read on other posts/forums where some builders have used 3/16 strips as a means to lighten their canoe. The f'glass is where the strength comes from..... I don't see that it will make a significant difference beyond weight. There is one thing I'd consider as you move forward, that is: ...
I had to buy one of those windshield covers and had to put it on and remove it each night/morning for her. Small price to pay for the " temp boat shop".

Jim D. I have done epoxy work in the garage (2 1/2 car) in Michigan's Winters. I have hung a tarp to create a smaller area added a 1500 Watt Heater and maintained a temp sufficient to cure epoxy. It's not all you gotta do but it worked for me. Another trick is to "tent" around the canoe/bo...
TB III is overkill and not necessary for Bead and Cove Stripping! Remember your creating a composite hull. when you encapsulate the wood with epoxy/glass the idea is to keep the water away from the wood. The stripping glue just needs to hold the strips together until the epoxy & glass work is co...
A couple more tips on making the strips. Assuming you are going to rip them from 1 x 8's or other width cedar planks, I used a 7 1/2" dia x 24 teeth skill saw blade in my 10" table saw to rip them into individual strips. The 7 1/2 dia blade has a narrower kerf (approx. 0.065") and the...
I have added a 6' Shelf to the base of my planner. It is a white melanime (sp.) shelf bracket (3/4 x 12' wide x 6' long) I purchased at Menards (all the big box stores sell them). Raise the planner head and slide the shelf through the head and secure it to the in feed and out feed tables. I used sel...
Gentlemen. I previously built a 16 ft. Peterborough from Ted's Canoecraft and was an active participant in this forum. I gleaned a lot of helpful information from the good folks here and was enlightened to hear and see the fine work the participants produced. I have a new problem! I have an offer to...
If it's not too late, don't bother to plane the extra stock off the strips. Match them by color and grain. Mark each one with chalk on one side (arrow to indicate grain dir). Then set up your router so the marked side is against the fence. The fence is then spaced @ 1/8 to the center of the cutters....
This may be a little late for this post, but this a proven method I have used on my 16' Peterborough Stripper with excellent results using Epifanes High Gloss (6-8 coats). RE: boatdesign. net, PAR, Yacht Designer/Builder, Fla. 21SE2013. "Go over the surface with 220, then with 240, but I wouldn...
