Re: Resolute Kayak - Started a build blog

Hi Gary, I made my Freedom 17 with white cedar, which I couldn't get in full length due to the nature of the trees. Instead of doing all the joining on the boat, I decided it would be easier to just skarf full length source boards, then cut the strips from those. I use the strongback (with sacrifici...

Re: Resolute Kayak - Started a build blog

Will be interesting to follow this build, please let us know as you update ... and if want opinions, I am sure lots of folks here have experience and can offer opinions on any issues you raise. Since you are at (or near) the strip creation stage ( and from the blog it looks like you intend to make y...

: ( I can't see the pics you posted.

Glad you have stuck with the build, it can be easy to get side tracked.

You are in the home stretch, almost to the splash point ...you are going to be so elated when it hits the water. Keep going ra ra ra

Nice work as always Jim, do you find that the composites handle any differently from the wood?

Re: Hull Repair

First ... I think you have done a first rate job so far. As far as the patch, I would cut something just a little bigger than what you have and I would make it a bit more regular shape, say an elongated oval. Apply the patch, allow to get to the recoat stage and do the first fill coat ... let this f...

Re: Hull Repair

I can't see the pictures either, but your explanation is pretty good. You want to fill the gap above the wood repair with a piece of cloth, then when that gets just tacky add a larger patch a that overlaps the area by ~1.5 "- 2", in your case I would just do an oval ... wet that, do 1 fill coat, the...

Re: Hull Repair

Drilling holes on the inside looks like it may be able to saturate those ares you photographed, the method is using 2 holes, smallest you can make .. drill one at one side of the area you want to inject, and another on the very far side ... force the epoxy from one to the other, wipe and put a piece...

Re: Finished!

Nice work, it looks awesome .... you should be proud of yourself.

The big question now is... when are you going to splash it and get to feel it pull under you, then let us know how awesome it feels to paddle that beast.

That is not as bad as it could be ... the guidance on the web site should work well for you. I notice you are using Google Photos ... I do use the [ img] [ /img] (minus the extra space in there so they would display). This isn't required for all sites, but it has worked on all sites for me ... Proce...

Nope .. all I see is a "Image" marker, that doesn't lead anywhere (is not clickable).

Stephen has given a couple good references to CanoeCraft for larger repairs, if yours don't fall into that category, we really will need to see a pic to take it any further.

Re: Redbird 17' Sanity Check

Stephen, I believe in that post series, I plot the forms both at the top and bottom and explain that there is no difference between the two views, it really is just a matter of convenience when using the area you setup for plotting. WoodWorker, there is definitely something wrong with that station ....
