Re: Outer stem protector
On both my canoe and kayak, I flattened the stems to 3/8" which is the width of the brass strip. I kept the edges sharp so they blend into the brass. I believe Canoecraft states that wrapping the glass around the stems isn't necessary so I didn't. The epoxy covers the flat and protects it. Ther...

Re: Outer stem protector
Brass bends nicely so you won't have a problem making the curve. Pre-drill your holes into the stem and put wax on the brass screws. Do not, under any circumstances, use anything but a screw driver to put the screws in...they are made of brass and are real soft. I pre threaded my holes with a small ...

Re: Outer stem protector
I think that this comes down to personal preference. You can't go wrong either way. I like the look of the brass...some people don't. No matter how careful you are, getting into a kayak is sometimes difficult and the stern hits the bottom of the lake. After a few years, take some steel wool or a fil...

Re: Epoxy Question
Rob, Just to be clear...I was confident about flipping the hull over after a week so I could then work on the deck. Sanding after a week is probably not enough time. I didn't sand my kayaks epoxy coats until it was finished which was about a month later. In my humble opinion, sanding the epoxy shoul...

Re: Epoxy Question
I just finished a 17' Endeavour this summer...here is my opinion, or 2 cents, if you will. I agree with JesseP...don't rush the project if you don't have to. I put 3 coats of epoxy on my hull, waited about a week then turned it over on the strongback. I didn't notice any problems with marks on the e...

Re: Endeavour 17 in Algonquin Park
Here are some pictures that I took while building my Endeavour 17. The strips were originally milled 30 years ago. I bought them from a guy who never got around to building anything and decided they were taking up too much space. This build was started in September 2014 and finished in early August ...

Endeavour 17 in Algonquin Park
I started this build in September 2014 and finished this July 2015. I took both my Prospector 16 and my Endeavour 17 into Algonquin with my two boys for four days. More build pics to follow.

Re: Sourcing Cedar
Hi Mike, Assuming that you want planks and are going to cut the strips yourself...Go to Exotic Woods at 5229 Harvester Rd in Burlington. They regularly stock 20' cedar boards just for making canoe strips. When I was building my Prospector, I went there with my block plane and spent an hour sorting b...

Here is my Prospector that I built a few years back. It has been into the interior of Algonquin Park twice. Great memories of the build.

Re: need suggestions on finishing cedar strips adjacent to g
Hi Kitisi, I attached my inner and outer gunnels then sanded the cedar flush to the top of them. I then coated them with a couple coats of varnish. I didnt try to keep the gunnels flush with the edge of the cedar strips. When you attach the gunnels they will create a nice curve along the side of the...

Re: Kayak seat
Hi KenC,
What tool did you use to sculp the foam? I would love to do it myself but the tool that I have seen used is over $70. Also, did you follow anyone's directions? You are right though, after building a canoe and kayak, the seat should be easy.

Re: 17' 0" Endeavour
Thanks Glen...
I have been searching the web to see what is available but so far I have not seen anything that I like. I would like to build one from a block of foam but the shaping tool is over $70. From looking at other pictures on this forum, I think the Nimbus seat is the way to go.
