Re: Short period without UV protection

Hourray!
I feel a lot more comfortable now, knowing that I can spend a week and enjoy my canoe with my wife in the Adirondack. If anything happen, like you said, I can always sand and repair the damage before the varnish step.
Thanks for the reply!

Short period without UV protection

hello everyone, it's been a long time! In fact, it's been so long since I made my boat that I lost some ground rules. I am restoring my canoe after more than 20 years of use and yesterday, after some repairs, I applied a thin layer of epoxy on the outside of the boat. I know that the epoxy needs to ...

epoxy turning green

In Ted's book, I remember reading something about the epoxy turning green when used with certain fibreglass cloth coated with a stuff not compatible with the epoxy but nothing about sitka spruce turning green.

More details ...

Hi ealger and Rick, To clarify myself a little bit more, my rawhide was sealed with several coats of Epifanes varnish and weaved very tightly 4 years ago: http://pages.infinit.net/canotjpa/images/banc5.jpg I don’t think I could have weaved it more tightly. My frame is made out of thick ash so, no ch...

I don’t think putting my seats under a warm light will work because putting my canoe under the sun for several hours should have done the same thing right? Maybe not, I will try it anyway just in case … I could remove Cariboucry from my list but a lot of people will then restart to ask me where I’ve...

I found a picture!

Hi Glen, After looking through some CD's at home, I found a side picture of me using my little motor: http://pages.infinit.net/canotjpa/images/lac_fish_creek03a.jpg Like you and patrickdoty said, a longer boat or a larger stern end would be better but ... it would mean a bigger boat too! I love my b...

Hi Glen, In this post, you were asking yourself why there was not a photo of me alone in my canoe using my motor on my website. Well, I don't have a sided view but I can tell you that the canoe is effectively pointing upward a little bit when I'm alone with the motor but most of the time, my wife is...

Question about Rawhide canoe seats

Hi everyone, It's been a long time since my last visit! I have a small problem and maybe one of you can help me. The rawhide on my canoe seat has elongated a bit during last summer. Normally, after a rain, I used to place my canoe directly under the sun for some time to help re-tight the material bu...
