I have someTitebond type II glue also that I use around the house. I have found it to be very thin as well. I was wondering though, doesn't the book "CanoeCraft" suggest the use of non waterproof white glue (ie. regular ole Elmers?) I bought the stuff that is NOT waterproof for the canoe. ...

Thank you for the idea.
I checked them today and their not as bad now. It's quite windy today, but no rain so I opened the garage doors to hopefully dry them out.
After the trip to the in laws I'll work on them.

Thanks,
Dave

Warped Molds

I used plywood to make the molds. The center mold always had a curve to it so I added a 2x4 to the back of it, which took the curve out. We have had 2 day's of heavy rain and all but the end molds are all warped due to the humidity. Does it make sense that once it dries out and the humidity goes dow...

I'm gonna call my dad in Traverse City to see what he can find up there and my brother in law in Midland. He's a contractor there so he should have some contacts. I'm from Michigan, living in South Carolina. I can get Eastern Red Cedar for 1.20 a BF, but so far I have only 9, 8and 6 ft clear strips ...

Glen, Bud...
Thank you for the picture and info.
It does have a mind of it's own as I noticed as I ran it through the planer it twisted.
We'll see how the strips turn out.

Flipping through the Wooden Boat Mag I stumbled across a advertisement for East System Epoxy (Nov/Dec 2004 page #19), where they sell 6oz x 60" cloth for $5.15/yd.
FYI,

I think I've got the spelling wrong (Persimmion).
Thinking about a golf club hitting a golf ball/tee at 60-80 mph this would be a good choice for the outer stems.
Thanks for your reply,

Thank you for the reply. I'll check the forms later today.
I was going to put this on the builders forum, but thought it needed to go here.
Did you see my question on the Permission wood for the outside stem ?
Sure makes some beautiful golf club heads.
I'm grateful for the help.

that looks great! Is that Black Walnut stripping as well?
If so how did you sand when it is so much harder that the rest of the wood?

Thanks

FYI from Epifanes ( I'm not endorsing )

Question: For those of us who are not professionals and only varnish occasionally, can you elaborate on the various acceptable methods of cleaning and storing brushes in between uses? Also, what is the qualitative difference between Badger hairbrushes and Chinese Bristle brushes? Answer: When it com...

Molds

I've got all the molds cut out and mocked up on the strongback. The stem molds are on plum and level. I notice that when I take a piece of stripping ( 9 foot or so ) and lay it on the molds it doesn't touch the full edge of # 3 or 4. :( All others look great. In all the pictures I don't see where th...

Persimmon

How about some Persimmon for the outside stems. I was given a few pieces and boy is it some hard stuff. Also, has anyone used black walnut for the in/outwales ?, with wild pear for the scuppers ? All the molds are done, just got minor adjustments and we're ready to start. Cannot wait. Thank you in a...
