Re: Help with strips please

Hi guys, So I had a little more time and I decided to make the decision to plane the other side of my strips but not too aggressively. It turns out that they are almost all perfectly smooth on both sides but I mareked each strip with an outer side as well. It turns out that I'm only 3/64th " un...

Re: Help with strips please

Hi again everyone, I have finally found time to work on the strips and passed them through my planner cleaning up one side. As with my test strip they are 7/32" thich with one side cleaned up and I figure if I do the other side they will be about 3/16" thick. So I have another question. If...

Re: Help with strips please

As heated garages go I'm lucky to have an insulated heated two car garage. Its normally only kept just a few degrees above freezing but I installed a subpanel there last year and have a big 240v heater so I bring the temperature up if working in there. I figure this will be a big advantage being eas...

Re: Help with strips please

Sorry no pictures this time. Ive been away a lot for work lately but I did run one strip through my new planner before running off to work again. The strip looked great on the planned side without any noticeable snipe on the ends. It ended up being 1/64th" under 1/4 inch thick as measured by ca...

Re: Help with strips please

Thanks for all the replies. Phil I appreciate your advice with marking the strips and keeping the excess on the outside for fairing. The tool rental place wasn't working out as it was 30$ for the day plus 70$ required blade replacement fee plus 20$ to have them replace your blades plus tax on all th...

Re: Help with strips please

So I have found a tool rental company with a makita bench top thickness planer that will rent for 30$ a day. I'm going to rent that and give it a shot. I will do my best to keep the grain in the right direction. If that isn't working well the sawmill has a thickness sander they can run it through bu...

Thanks Glen I'll get myself setup with a proper bench top model and clean the strips up first then.

Re: Help with strips please

Thank you both Jim and Brian. Jim I appreciate the picture of your router setup as I have a recycled kitchen island counter top as my router table with a Kreg insert plate but no fence yet. I love the idea of marking the strips on one side and keeping them uniform during the build it makes lots of s...

Help with strips please

Need a little advice. I have had some strips made for me at the local sawmill and they ended up being both cut with a bandsaw (kinda ruff finish) and they are face grain instead of end grain as I requested. Otherwise they are however knot free and uniform in size. The thickness seems to be about 1/1...

Re: 17' 0" Nomad

So I ran into a major hurdle which set me back by months.... the honey do list. With wife's gargantuan to do list nearly complete I see the light at the end of the tunnel. I had ordered my strips from the sawmill and received them in mid July. Unfortunately I had very little time to do anything with...

Re: Titebond 3

I just couldn't help myself I went out and got some original tightbond and will do some further testing with that and TB III as soon I get the chance.

Perhaps I'm a little OCD

Re: Titebond 3

So I have run a bit of a test with the tight bond III and a few pieces of cedar I had laying around. I did leave it for about 48 hrs so I cant say much about how it cures in a couple of hours. I found that wiping any excess with a damp cloth leaves no noticible reside outside the joint and I had two...

Re: 17' 0" Nomad

Makes great sense thanks. I guess I'll make sure that I order enough wood to be on the safe side.

Thanks
