New Boat Plan From Woodworker's Journal

Hi folks, Long time no see. I came across this plan which was released a couple of days ago in the Woodworker's Journal "eZine" and thought some of the folks here might be interested. It's a bit larger than a lot of the projects here but I think some of you will appreciate it. Check it out...

Re: New builder: building space issue

Thanks for the advice, I live up in Ottawa Canada, so I figure I'd have a building window of about 3-4 months? I'm guessing June/July/August would be fine for building outdoors, and maybe half of may and half of October? I suspect your window would be a bit bigger than that by maybe a few weeks. On...

Re: nitrile rubber gloves

Hi Bryan, any new projects in the works? Hi Glen, Lots of plans but no action! I've been overwhelmed by family stuff, plus last winter I started up Coldspring Paddling Instruction so have been busy starting and running a small business and climbing the learning curve that that entails. I have a par...

nitrile rubber gloves

Hello folks, As someone who works in a lab I'm pretty familiar with what we term "PPE" or Personal Protective Equipment". One of the important consumables in boatbuilding is gloves. Unfortunately what I've seen in hardware stores is way over-priced crap. The ones I buy for the lab at ...

And to top it off, you matched the dark cedar stripes in the stems. Brilliant.

Don, a spray deck would certainly be the ultimate solution. Covering the whole canoe seems like overkill in my situation, but as you say, a bow piece alone could work out fine. I'll have to give it more thought. I like the spray deck idea personally. Of course the spray deck should have a bit of a ...

Sad indeed. I was interested to read of his connection with the Canadian Canoe Museum and that the CCM is given as an option for donations to be made in his memory. Those in Saskatoon (and other cities across western Canada) will have the opportunity next week to make a donation to the CCM at the Na...

Now, get them off those rocks. :frightened As one who built his kayak to be used, not just looked at, I am hoping that you are mostly joking. What do you think happens when I go north where there is granite, granite, and more granite? Lisa's beach in BC looks pretty soft in that photo, by compariso...

Hi Gene, Given that this is a Bear Mountain Boats Forum, I don't want to say anything disparaging against Bear Mountain. They are great folk, but there are only so many boats that any one company can offer. Are the Bear Mountain kayak models the only boats that can be considered here? What about som...

Hi Jeff, On my guillemot I stripped cove-up, with the bead planed/cut off of the first hull strip. Therefore a rolling bevel was planed onto the first deck strip to match when I got to that point. It worked out just fine for me. It's not perfect, but then again, that's why we always have to build an...

Could you e-mail me your address, I want to move in! (Just kidding.)

One small comment though, I guess you don't put the boat up fresh from the water, dripping wet, maybe with some sand, mud and dirt inside and weeds hanging off of it eh? ;)
