I haven't posted for some time but have always enjoyed this forum. This is a Ranger I am making for myself from material left over from previous builds. Wish I had one more bundle of longer strips lol

Re: 14' 0" Venture

Re: Gluing Bow and Stern Short Strips

double bead your first strip on the turn up and then you can glue cove up afterwards. Or, pinch the plank bead up between two fingers and using a glue syringe have someone pull plank away from you as you apply glue on the bead between your fingers. after the first couple you will get it done much ea...

Re: Stems To Stem Molds

no worries, they do spring out, just clamp into position when shaping and planking being careful to keep the stem centered on the form as you shape and plank. A couple of clamps at the top and one on the bottom should do the trick. Denis http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l272/denis_045/Freedom_172.j...

Re: Epifanes

the foam brush to use is the JEN brush which is made in usa. Likely find it in paint stores as oposed to most hardware stores as they are more expensive. I soak mine between coats and reuse it with no ill effects. I believe they also make a foam roller. I did my last varnish job with a foam roller a...

Re: Transporting Kayak

I am adding a picture to clarify what I referred to in my above message. In the picture you will see how the rack is mounted to the frame of the vehicle and the clips used are specific to each vehicle model. It also show the L shaped brackets fastened to the bar of my rack. the brackets are easily a...

Re: Transporting Kayak

Hi Digger I use a Yakima tower mount in front of the vehicle roof rack and find it fastens securely to the frame of the roof. Yakima likely has a tower and clip system that would work for you. Picture shows the tower mount in front of my roof rack and canoe secured by straps. The rear rack is fasten...

Re: Sealing the deck underside

It is a very good idea to seal it all with epoxy but you can wait till it is installed if your in a hurry to instal decks. I always epoxy them the day before I install but you should be able to reach up under well enough to seal it after. It wouldnt hurt to thin it a bit with thinner before hand to ...

Re: Stem questions - with pictures!

that was no student :-) that was me, I just cant seem to keep my hands off :-) I did put on gloves later during cleanup and all students were gloved, but a very good point, gloves should be worn at all times even when just doing something for a minute :-)

Re: Stem questions - with pictures!

true esp with cedar inner stems, however I have built many canoes and kayaks just precoating all mating surfaces once with runny thickened epoxy and have had no issues. Hardwood doesnt require as much as it doesnt absorb as much as cedar does. Makes cleanup a whole lot easier as well. The key point ...
