Re: Just finished on the water. 16 Prospector
Never say never about building another one. If I did it would be a single person though.
Thanks!

Just finished on the water. 16 Prospector
Thank you to everyone who has contributed on this site. Sometimes the answers can only be found by screwing something up, and there are a couple of screw ups in my canoe, but it turned out much better than I expected.

Sanding out epoxy patches
There are a few spots I've applied some epoxy to on the hull, and I was wondering if those spots have to be completely sanded out before applying the fibreglass? I'm a little worried about the color looking off where those spots were.
Thanks for any help....Mike

Gunwales length prospector
Hello, I'm building the 16' prospector and have found a sawyer near me who might have Ash for the Gunwales. What is the minimum length I would need for this canoe?
Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Sourcing Cedar
I spoke to exotic woods early today, they have three pieces of 5/4 and 4/4 left......I think I'm gonna roll the dice and pick up some 16'ers here in Niagara plus some long scraps.
I love reading the build logs so I'm going to set one up, a blog. I'll share when it's active.

Re: Sourcing Cedar
I talked to Noah's marine and was told by the guy there, that they milled all the clear stuff into strips, and that even though that it was listed for sale on their website they couldn't sell me any planks....

Re: Sourcing Cedar
Thanks for taking the time to reply......the prospector is 16'1''. There is a place near me that has lots of 5/4x6''x16' ers, plus a few pieces of stuff someone already milled to 3/4 that are 19 feet long but only 1 3/4 wide. Could I get away the few pieces I could cut out of the long ones?? ..........
