Re: A couple of new paddles for 2019

Brian, Great tutorial! Thanks for the work and thought you put into this, gives me a solid idea for how to do the dual paddle. I will heed the note about paddle types and do some more research on that. I think I might borrow your router trick as well: seems like the easiest way to get them symmetric...

Re: 14' 0" Venture

Denis, thanks for the info. It makes sense to me now. I have only built stemless canoes, this yak business is uncharted waters for me. I get what you are saying: time to get out the tape! I'm gluing up the shears tomorrow, will be sure they don't glue to the stems until way later. I really appreciat...

Re: A couple of new paddles for 2019

Cruiser,
I sure would love to see them. Maddie, who is getting the Yak, is an artist, so I want to do something real nice for her.

Thanks,

Greg

Re: A couple of new paddles for 2019

Brian, you are truly an artist, and it seems that you have way too much time on your hands!! JK Sure are beautiful. They are inspiring me to try my hand at paddles again. I made two back when I built the White, but following my fashion of overbuilding everything, they weigh about 5 lbs each! Need to...

Venture build: Maddie's Yak

Well, I'm getting started on the Venture for my second daughter. Pics are below, but I have a question. Ted states on page 84 NOT to glue the stems and the shear clamps together at this time. I cannot find anywhere later in the book where these two very important structural parts are epoxied togethe...

Re: Made a Eastern Red Cedar Nomad

Totally A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!! What a beautiful canoe, and a great story. I love the differences between the sap wood and the hard wood, such contrasting colors make for a beautiful canoe. I hope you enjoy her for many years to come. Greg

Re: 16' 0" Prospector

Thanks, Jim. It is supposed to represent a sun burst, or sun's rays. Maple and walnut, I like how it turned out, as does Megan. I've only built stemless, as I started with Gilpatrick's book before I found this site and Ted's book. Going to have to break the line, though, as the next project is a Ven...

Re: 16' 0" Prospector

Well, a year, a move, and a couple of months, and she's done! Quite the project given all the life stuff that got in the way. Here's a link to the slideshow in Photobucket: http://s774.photobucket.com/user/canoeblderinmt1/slideshow/The%20Moo%20Canoe Here's a couple of pics of the finished boat: http...

Re: First time Yak for my daughter

Cruiser and Sedges, thanks for giving me your thoughts and it's nice to be in touch with you guys after so long. I was on the site a lot back in 2004/5 when I built my second White Guide. In looking over the profiles for the Venture, it seemed to me like it should be a pretty good boat, so I was sur...

First time Yak for my daughter

Hi all, I am going to build a kayak for my second twin daughter. I finally finished Twin #1's 16' Prospector a few weeks ago. Maddie is 5'8", about 125 lbs, and athletically gifted, but not very active. She wants a kayak. I've been searching a lot of books and plans. She doesn't want a long touring ...

A Return to building and the BM Forum

Hello, My name is Greg, but some of you old-timers may remember me as canoeblderinmt. I was active in the forum in '05 and '06 (has it really been a DECADE?!?!?!?), when I built my 20 foot White. A long, winding river has brought me back, and I'm glad to see some familiar names (Patrick's Dad, Glen,...
