Re: Ribs at the seat
Thanks for the input on rib for the seat. I weight about 265 pounds and I though a rib would help with the lateral strength at the seat area. An additional layer of fiberglass would be a lot easer.
Thanks,
Rusty

Ribs at the seat
Has anyone tried putting ribs at the seat location? This would add a little weight but would give the canoe a lot of lateral strength at the seat locations. By using the mold at the seat location I would have the proper shape to add a 1/2 x 1 inch steam bent wood rib that would be epoxied to the ins...

Re: Western Red Cedar
Jim,
Question about your grain diagram. Is that grain pattern for the uncut board or the cut strips?

Re: Western Red Cedar
Thanks for the help. I'll go with the 5/8" strips. I live in Tyler, TX. I'm looking forward to the woodworking but not the fiber-glassing.

Re: Western Red Cedar
I just started a 15' prospector, got the molds and stems finished and began to look around for Western Red Cedar. I called up one of the local lumber stores and they have 1"x 12" x 16' clear WRC at a great price. When I went to check it out the boards were nearly knot free and looked great...
