Re: Fiberglassing the hull
Thanks for the epoxy information Brian. To clarify the timing concept I mentioned, I applied the wetting out coat to the outside hull with a brush as the CanoeCraft book suggests. This was a time consuming chore for me and as I worked down the hull section by section. Eventually towards the end of t...

Fiberglassing the hull
Hello builders. I'm ready to fiberglass the inside of the hull and building the Redbird. I used West System epoxy on the outside and had a difficult time keeping up with the relatively short set time. I'm applying it by myself and was a struggle to keep up with the wetting out and squeegeeing timing...

Re: Fiberglassing the stems
Many thanks for posting the picstures Jim and Brian. This is my 1st. fiberglassing experience, so the pics. are a great help. I didn't have fiberglass pieces long enough so I used 3 short pieces. This made for more scraping however using the carbide paint scraper, it was no trouble. Would have been ...

Fiberglassing the stems
Hello everyone. I have been searching the posts and trying to understand how the bias cut fiberglass laid over the stems can just become transparent after the epoxy is applied. I read on the forum that sanding too much epoxy off the hull and sanding into the fiberglass will cause it to be visible. I...

Closing the bottom, last three strips
Hello builders. I need some more advice. My 1st. request for info. was on the 1st strip; cutting the ends flush with the stem. I am now three strips to closing in the bottom. The plan I'm using is the Redbird. This is my first build. I am confused on a method close in the bottom. I did find a very u...

Re: trimming strips to stem
Guys, thanks so much for responding and providing some needed guidance. It was not even on my radar screen to leave the installed strips marginally long and cut to size in one operation. That will be a lot easier with respect to what I had in mind. To answer your question. Yes I'm using the latest e...

trimming strips to stem
Hello everyone. I am new to the site. This is my 1st. canoe build, the Redbird. Installed the first strip on the forms, after trimming the end flush to the stem I realized the need for some advice on how to accomplish this task and have a better result. The first one turned out ok, however, being a ...
