If you decide to go the cheap route and get your own lumber, you can go REALLY cheap and hunt around Menards for some 5/4 16 foot white cedar decking boards. I bought some of these for about $5.49 a piece. I found one with only one knot and a couple more with minimal. I will say it took a couple tri...

It'll be fine. I noticed when I applied epoxy when it was around those temps it took way longer for it to cure up well. Don't hit the panic button yet!

Thanks for the replies. Silly me. For some reason the obvious thing to do, test it, didn't occur to me. Why? I don't know.

I mixed up a couple little batches and everything still seemed to work as it should.
Thanks guys!

Another Epoxy question: When does epoxy get old?

I've got some epoxy and hardener I bought around two years ago. I also left it in the garage for a MN winter. I contacted the manufacturer (US Composites) and there wasn't someone on hand that knew for sure. They said they would call me back but I figured I'd see if anyone on the board was in the kn...

Joe, you can do it. I used some foam on my boat. It's a long story but I made a foam sabot. I should get some hosting and post a bic. It woulded fine. I didn't use divinycell but I used last-a-foam instead just because it was cheaper. Since I put graphite on the bottom of my boats I'll likely just b...

Coming from a hack such as myself I'd say don't sweat it.
It's not like a tack cloth is oozing with crap that leeched into the hull. Then again some of the more knowledgeable folks on here may contradict me.

Ok, thanks Glen. I wasn't sure if the epoxy needed a week or two to get all the way there. A couple days is no big deal then. Thanks again for the reply.

Question about using cleats for installing seats

If I use cleats installed onto the hull; how long after the inside has cured is it safe to install and put stress on the cleats? My concern is for the glass on the hull and the cleats popping off as a little suprise. Is it pretty much good to go after it's cured for a few days? I'm not to this point...

I used one strip for the sheer on the boat I'm working on. I've only closed up two of the four 'birdsmouth' areas and it wasn't too bad. A little time consuming making some of the short pointy strips fit in but not as difficult as I'd thought.

I am also using hockey stick for my seats. I have a neighbor that works for the nearby ice arena and lets me take all the boken sticks I want.
They are great for all kinds of projects. That glider rocker idea sounds pretty great!

I do the same as sedges. I've had an unscheduled swim in the past and the packs floated fine.
I don't tie anything simply because when I hit a portage I don't want to untie it.

I can't add anything about the floatation question.
