Thank you for the replies, that makes me feel quite a bit better about things. I'll keep you posted on how it turns out.

Screwed up the accent stripe

I've finished my accent strip of three 1/4" strips laminated together, 2 dark red border a white WRC. I ran it throught the planer this past weekend and it looks awesome. Unfortunately I forgot to account for the material removal during the bead and cove procedure (brought to my attention by Gl...

That is a bummer... I think we will have to redo the accent strips or take an 1/8 off of the opposite side when I cove.

Alright, thanks Glen.

We are doing stapleless construction. I just can't see shooting a couple hundred staples through the beautiful WRC. I forgot where I read it. But I'd rather answer the question "How did you do that?" then "What are all those little holes?".

To scarf or to butt

We have 12' strips for a 18.5' canoe so we will be jointing the strips. Our plan now is to scarf joint the first three strips and the accent strip (fourth strip) and then do a simple butt joint for the remaining strips. Being a complete novice to canoe building does anyone have reccommendations for ...

Thanks for the feedback. I guess I should have made the accent strip thicker to plane down to the correct thickness. That's a good idea and on the next canoe that's what I'll do. I've said that many times now. I guess we will route a few strips and see how it goes. If the bead or cove is falling off...

Planing Strips

WeI've started to make some progress with the canoe, but have yet to put a strip on... Lot's of preparation. This past weekend we finished cutting the strips and made the accent strip with two pieces of dark cedar and a very bright white one in the middle. These were cut down to 1/4" width and ...

First timer questions

Hello, I've been lurking on this forum for some time now and finally started an 18'-6" White Guide (sans-staples) canoe modified a bit by adding stems. My friend Brian and I set up a little web page to show friends our progress, the link is here http://home.comcast.net/~xamirb/canoe.html I firs...
