All of the CanoeCraft designs are proven and reliable. Experienced paddlers would prefer the narrow beam I would think. Sell it as-is. I would not worry about the bottom surface. How many people walk around in their canoes or even stand up in their canoe ? Price? I tell people that they are getting ...

Truck Racks

Nice looking truck racks you can build featured in Workbench Magazine , April 2007 ed. According to the article you can build the truck rack for less than $100 in one weekend. Key feature is a special clamp that must be purchased. This clamp allows fast attachment of rack standards to truck bed. :th...

I took a look at the purchased seats and the chord length should have been around 14". That would make the radius 25". :embarassed

a 2:1 ratio would be about right I would think. Twice as many of the 12 footers since you will be using them full lenght.

I purchased contoured seats already made up from http://www.edscanoe.com.

Try a radius of about 18.5 in. ......that would be the solution for a middle ordinate of 1" and a chord lenght of 12" if my arithmetic is correct. :thinking

I just finished building a Huron using cypress....I think it's a great wood to use for strippers. Being in the "Sunny South" I can find it locally. Rough sawed the price is less than $2.00 BF. I made no effort to keep weight down and my Huron only weighted about 2 pounds heavier than the B...

To Tdoes: The casters worked out perfectly. It was nice to be able to move outside for the sanding. I don't think I had any movement, but I think my strongback could have been built much lighter. There is a engineering college near me that builds all of their canoes on strongbacks with casters, and ...

Thanks for the comments...I realize that my canoes are "Plain Janes" compared to some of the canoes that I see on this site. That's what is great about the stripper. They all have beauty that transcends our skills be they great or limited. Just a few additional comments: 1. I forgot to men...

Building the Huron

After many months, it's finally finished. Things that I did differently: 1. Placed the strongback on casters. 2. Stripped the bottom using the Hazen method. 3. Moved the thwart location 10" off center. Also, I build a small removal seat to be used midship(not shown). 4. Used matte varnish on th...

I purchase their 3 gallon kit....I think it's a good product. Please note that they ship their glasscloth folded, but that has never caused me any trouble.

Great looking canoe....Thanks for sharing. :applause

I liked the tip about the drywall sanding pad. I'm currently using homebrew device that uses a sanding belt cut into.

Hi Ed! Great looking canoe.:applause I will be posting a few pic and comments of my Huron project soon. I'm in the varnishing stage right now. I like to try new procedures, woods, and designs. However, I think that a beginner would do well to stay with the CanoeCraft directions starting out. Best re...

To Tim: Sorry about the name mix-up. I could have improved on my spelling also. I thought I edited a few of those typos out, but somehow they still showed up! :thinking To WoodChuck: After thinking back, I may have used an oil based stain on the canoe that I had problems with. Still it may be a good...

Tim: I'm impressed with your skill at such an early age. I was in my 30's before gettilng into woodworking. Canoe building much later I might add. If the strongback cann't rack(get out of square) I would think storage as you describe would be OK. If you plan to continue working into the cold weather...
