Hi Jim...
I would not use any staples. Why put a couple of thousand holes in a beautiful hull? Use
Titebond 3 glue and it will be just fine...

Re: southern Ontario source for cherry gunwale stock
If you can't find a source in Southern Ontario, Armstrong Mill Works in Highland, MI has tons of it with most in 5/4 and in any length. They are located NW of Detroit or W of Pontiac, MI and deal in Cash or Check only.

Re: tips on trimming plank ends
I used a "microplane" available at Woodcraft. It is like a cheese grater, in fact, it was a cheese grater before they went into the woodworking market. The tool is fantastic for the job and I used it everywhere you want to revise the shape of wood. See my website for a photo under "st...

Re: Tips on removing a deep staple
Don't forget to consider a "super magnet". Some of these are very powerful and after you have soaked the wood to soften it, put the magnet over it. I have done this before so I know it works... Good Luck...

Re: just wondering
IMHO, build the first one and then start thinking about the business thing. I think most builders would like to have a business building cedar strip canoes but there is just too much labor involved to ever get paid for it plus a profit. You will learn so much during the first build that you will the...

Re: Gunwales
Lookin good but for my money, I would have put a radius at each corner of the scuppers. For structural strength, a sharp corner is to be avoided, hence the radius. Ninety degree corners are never recommended for strength, always round, filet, fill, curve, etc. IMHO

If anybody else is using Google Chrome as their browser and are experiencing any font problems with this latest website change, if you go under the wrench icon on the right side of the screen and select the "zoom" feature, you can make the browser font any size you want. That corrected my ...
Re: Off Topic
This latest BBS change has the screen display in light blue with the left bar in green. Is this intentional? Also it displays in large fonts. I used Google Chrome as a browser and it has worked fine until this latest change.
Thanks, Joe

Congrats, Randy... My day was a disaster... I was 60 F which is the min. temp for working with West System but the epoxy did not flow the same coming out of the pumps or spreading on the glass. I basically worked my tail off and never even got a chance to put on the second coat. I had bubbles rangin...

You want stability for yourself and two daughters! I think you need a larger canoe but it depends on your size. I am over 250 # so I selected the 17' Nomad due to load carrying capacity and hull shape. BUT, I am adding a ama or outrigger to my canoe so I can stand while casting etc. and not worry ab...
