I would like a really nice low angle plane to use for other projects. I do not mind putting out 140 bucks for it. The problem I have is I also want a dust collector that is 395 and a band saw which is 450 and the hoses and connectors. With everything I am looking at around 1400 to 1600 dollars inclu...

Low angle block plane or Spokeshave

ok I am finally getting back to my 15 foot ranger canoe. I built the strong back last August and had to stop because of lack of funds. Just found out I am getting my taxes back on Friday so I am looking at the tools to order and I am stuck on either a low angle block plane or a spokeshave. Here are ...

Spokeshave or Block Plane

I have been thinking about which to purchase to use on the stems to shape them and other parts of the canoe. Looking for opinions on what everyone has used or still does use. If you could let me know what brand and where you got the tool from would be great. Thank you

Strips Question

I am building a 15 foot Ranger canoe. Here are a couple pics of my station molds lined up in order. The question I have is one the very first strip do you set it a littler higher then the shear line so the bead can be cleaned off when you install the trim. http://i799.photobucket.com/albums/yy278/be...

Batten?

This might be in the wrong place but Where do I purchase a batten? I have been looking around for one and can not find one. I have been using a piece of 1/8 thick wood. I would like to get one for the sheer lines.

Look around here and check the pictures some of the others have on their version of stapless system. You will get some good ideas of different ways to go about it.

I have a question about shaping the inner stems, In the book it says to shape the inside of the inner stem before you put in on the stem mold on the strong back, so it looks good from the inside. How much do you shape then ? Do you just round it over or just a slight cure all the way around the insi...

if you can get the new edition I would. It has the info on stapless building and some other minor things (that I can not remember right now). I had both editions the 2nd and the latest. But as the moderators will tell you there are a few errors in the new editon. I gave the older edition I had to th...

Thank you for your answer. I asked because I am thinking of buying 1 X 8 WRC from a local company. I was told a price of 6.60 per linear foot which I figure is 118.00 for 18 foot boards. I figure I need 3 boards to make the total strips. I do have a nice router station that I can mill my own bead an...

Update: I called Loctite and told them what happened and they asked for the code on the bottles and it was a defective batch or the hardner was at the end of its life. If you look at the bottles the first and second digit are the year from Loctite. So they are sending me a replacement set and I will...

OK Here is what I have as of this morning. The Pine inner stems did not hold shape and the glue at the bend came apart again. They are going in the garbage. The Birch inner stems held their shape for the most part, they only moved about 1/8 at the very end of the stem mold. I glued the first pair of...
