i used all flat grain because i did,nt know any better. i did,nt have any tearout when i sanded and the highly figured grain looks great

sorry i don,t have photos,,,,mine looks like nova scotians, except it is one piece of wood,,,,of course, the original outer stem was then useless

i made the same mistake with my boat, i sanded the bilge flat when i should have cut a mortise to fit the stem into. i solved it by bulding new stems that were very wide (2 in. ) this gave me enough wood to cover the flat part of the bilge that i sanded away,,,,,then you can fair it in,,,.because it...

i did the same thing. i ended up cutting wider strips and bending them right on the canoe. it worked out fine and it looks good

i was thinking about using mas, now i probably will go to raka. i don,t want to sand, and i will probably need the time. Wiith raka, can i do 8am , 8pm and 8am again?

it may sound heretical, but i used a stanley #21-115 surform.available from amazon.com for less than 4 dollars.it did a great job.it is like a cheese grater.worked well for me, a so-so carpenter.i plan on using a sander on the hull.

can you slip a thin saw down the side and carefully saw through the glue? also tape up the remainder

thank you glen,i will use a better known brand for sure. i will try for optimum conditions.i think a slow hardener is best for me, a first timer. i am hoping i can spread it out over 3 days. in ted,s book, it talks about doing it all in one long day, i am too nervous to try that. i am building a bob...
