Thanks Jim,
Do you add the graphite in the final epoxy coat or as an extra coat after the rest is done?
It also occurred to me (after I finished planking and admiring the bottom of my boat), it is likely something I can do after I scratch it up a bit...

Re: Butchered the strips that attach to stem near keel
Brian,
I appear to have made the same mistake.
I over did it following the advice to trim the strips square as you go.
Could you post a pic of your solution and how it worked out?

Graphite additive for epoxy
Canoecraft mentions the use of the West System epoxy graphite additive to provide additional protection for the hull. While I am reluctant to cover the beauty of the cedar since I plan to use my canoe for tripping, if with will provide a significant additional protection, I would consider it. I woul...

shoe keel
I am building a cottage cruiser. I hope to use it for tripping so I planned to put a shoe keel on it to help protect the bottom dragging it over beaver dams and up onto beaches. The book discusses making a ¾ inch keel which seems like an over-kill for my purpose as I really don’t want it to interfer...

Re: Cottage Cruiser vs Prospector
Thanks for the food for thought.
FWIW, I have a station wagon with a 5 speed manual transmission. Good pickup in both senses of the word :-)

Re: Cottage Cruiser vs Prospector
Hmm, Thanks for the replies. Thing is, I need a boat we can tandem occasionally for tripping with the family. I will certainly retain the prospector for heavier tripping but I was looking at an alternative which would be easier to solo when I am on my own or when I am the odd man out on a trip. A de...

Cottage Cruiser vs Prospector
I'm looking for a boat suitable for light tripping (two people, 3-4 days) but also good for "toodleing around" solo. I currently have a 15' Kevlar prospector design which works well when we go touring and I like it for soloing when it is calm but it really catches the wind if there is any ...
