Only problem I've had with narrow strips is finding a stapler to tack them down with. With a little guile, you can figure it out.

Mine are 18 inches wide and 15 inches deep(out to out on the wood frame). Whatever depth you choose, make sure it fits your scuppers. My scuppers are 4 inch with 3 " solid sections. With 2 inch frame parts, that left solid areas for each end of the seat to attach to.

I was very satisfied with roughing out with band saw, then finishing with spindle sander. I used oak. The router did not seem to work very well on the oak. I'm sure cherry would have been ok with the router.

Just make sure everyone has a job and they do only that job. I like to have a friend do mixing and quality control (looking for runs and inadequate wetout). They get to keep their gloves cleaner and help with the bow and stern glass. don't be afraid of getting after it pretty quickly with the scrape...

I've moved 2 canoes from my basement, up and out the egress windows with no problems. I did build with staples and even removed 2/3 of them before moving them. One thing I did do for the stemless canoe was shape and glass the ends bofore moving it.

I've done it twice to 10/12, and it works fine for shortening.

When I shorten a canoe,I redraw the stem to match. I'd just take the stem mold plan and extend it in the same proportion as the station stretch.

Station molds - I did not even buy plans for 2 canoes. Plotting the molds from offsets was not difficult for me. It's just 2 coordinate groups, One at 2" along the horizontal baseline, and one at 2" spacing along the vertical centerline. plot them both on the same sheet and you are there! ...

One thing I forgot to mention is that it is better to fill too dark rather than too light. It will be less noticable.

Thats how i do it. You can color match a lot better that way. I use bleached wheat flour for lightening the fill material.

I don't see a problem with winter storage if your strongback is stable - meaning plywood or steel. You may have a problem if your strongback is 2X material. No info on your specific epoxy, but you may be able to make a plastic tent over the canoe and use a space heater or lightbulbs to get you into ...
