Re: Hey Now

Well, work and life with 2 kids has made this a slow go. But it looks like I will have the afternoon to sort out all my tools and supplies, after that the work can begin.

Re: Hey Now

Well after digging around the bookshelves here in the shop I managed top find about half a dozen books on Small woodcraft building, including a very well used copy of Canoecraft. Found a lot of old handwritten notes I made scattered throughout. I began clearing out space, just to start, moved out a ...

Re: Hey Now

Ok gotta learn the photo posting bit again. So here it is in the shop from a few months ago. Shop is pretty crowded now with other projects (Pinball machines is what I have been into the last while) so once things are cleared out should be ready to go. There is a very long and emotional story behind...

Hey Now

Hi Bear Mountain, It has been some time since I have been here. Thought I would see what is going on. I have seen that there seems to be more of an interest in building these days, Ron Swanson and all. I have completed 2 Bear Mountain Cedar Strips, a Kayak and restored an antique Adirondack guideboa...

Thanks for the comments and opinions. All are appreciated. While the glass job did not go as well as planned (on the inside) I have managed to finish the boat. She is strong and looks alright- however I know where every flaw is. I suppose nothing can ever be "perfect". Weather permitting I...

Who needs glass on the inside anyway. Well a portion covering the "football" is glassed with 8 oz cloth- the rest is just epoxy- she is pretty solid- best of all I didn't have to go through the big "inside job" now. :shocked Yeah I know some out there are wondering what the hell ...

Had a Bad Day

Have you guys ever had a day where things just go wrong. Like you end up with a pile of fibreglass and epoxy crumpled up on the shop floor. Where you were glassing the inside and the cloth moved around so much, and it got worse and worse as you worked it, that things were just not going well. Ever h...

Just a quick update. Been busy pilling staples and fairing. All going smoothly. Will be getting epoxy and supplies tomorrow. I won't give myself a deadline, but I would like to have this on the water by May. We shall see. 8 weeks into it as of today. Mark "There is nothing- absolutely nothing- ...

Today I rough cut my shear lines using a dremel saw. Marked the line out in red crayons. A bit of planing and sanding will get those ship shape. Pulled about 2/3 rds of the staples- my hand is sore now. Did a bit of fairing with a rabbit plane and spokeshave. Once the fairing is done, sanding will b...

A couple of photo's uploaded from today. The Bottom is about done, a few gaps to fill in still. I I will finish planking and then cut the shear line next.
Later on I will fair the boat with a spokeshave and plane, followed by a good sanding. Then the messy part.
