Thanks very much for the mention Danny. I wouldn't have missed it for the world. I have been looking forward to the launch of this boat almost as much as you have. The pics turned out ok but they do not do justice to the finish and build quality. Well done :applause Looking forward to the next two.

Hi Graham I built a Freedom 17 last year using WRC. The finished canoe cost about £800. The cedar cost about £200. I live in N.Ireland where nothing is cheap. Did you price the cedar as bead and cove strips or as raw planks? I bought two 18' x 8" x 4" ( I think ) planks from an importer an...

Hi Bryan The boat is looking great. Thanks for putting the plans on the net. I was one of the emailers asking about the Siskiwit Bay and I hope to get around to building it eventually. At the moment I'm building a S&G kayak from One Ocean Kayaks and I hope to build a SoF as well. You all know how...

Hi Chris No. I'm not planning on kneeling in a kayak. I had two evening sessions a month ago paddling a plastic sea kayak. I found myself lying back a bit when I got tired. It's about 10 years since I was in a kayak so it was lack of fitness. Hopefully when I get this kayak on the water things will ...

Hi Chris A very nice helpful site. When I was building the Freedom 17 I must have looked at your photos at least 100 times. A great help. I will soon be starting to build the Ginnyak, a skin on frame design from Brian Schulz at capefalconkayak.com. I don't think that I could sit too long in a kayak ...

Thanks for the kind words and good wishes. You have read it all before on this forum, this really is a very good canoe. I don't have a lot of paddling experience and my partner has none but on Sunday morning on Lough Neagh for about five minutes everything clicked into place. It was a pure joy to pa...

She Floats

Yes . The Freedom 17 floats, even without varnish. After 7 months of labour a new canoe is born. She tipped the scales at 54lb and took her first dip on Friday evening 06/06/30. http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i294/Roscoe50/DSCF5458.jpg http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i294/Roscoe50/DSCF5472.jpg ...

Roof Bars

Hello All The F17 is almost ready for sea trials??????? My transport is a 95 VW Golf mk 3 with sunroof. Thule and several other companies I've tried don't make a system for this model because of the sunroof. Has anyone used the foam blocks or is there another way to carry the canoe on this car? Roscoe

Hi Back again. Well I took your advice and scraped, belt sanded and RO sanded. When I wet the surface now there is still a few tiny white spots maybe it needs more sanding but it is a lot better than it was. Is what I see when the hull is wet the way it will turn out when I coat with epoxy? Is there...
