Router bits.
Hi folks, Right, I want to bead and cove my strips myself. I obviously need the proper router bits. I live in N.Ireland and my local store in Coleraine can`t help me. Is there anyone there from Britain who might be able to point me in the right direction as to where I might find a supplier of the ro...

3/16" Strips
I got my strips for my new Abeneki 16ft ripped a bit too close to the 1/4" mark and by the time I finish planeing they will more than likely be 1/16". Can I expect problems with this.Should I add a second layer of fibreglass to the hull? Suggestions gratefully received from all you folks.h...

Re: New canoe
I like the idea of the basswood.Trouble here is getting my hands on some.My present supplier who happens to be on the opposite coast from me, does`nt have any in stock. For a hardwood it`s a good weight and ferly easy to sand. My search goes on. Thank you folks. I will undoubtably be on the forum ag...

Re: New canoe
Thanks for your comments. I do have a router and will have a planer by Thursday. Although the strips have been ripped farely close to the 1/4 in I still think there is sufficient excess to allow me to produce a good finish. Anyone any suggestions for the wood to use for the accent strips? I used map...

Hi everyone. I`m just about to start making my 2nd canoe. It is the same design as my first which I started 6yrs ago. It took me 3yrs to complete for one reason or another. I`ve just had the plank of WRC ripped into strips. These strips are not planed but rough sawn, unlike the strips for my 1st can...

Well done
Great job. You must be proud. Did you have any difficulty with the cedar breaking at the knots ?

Hi Alick,
Thanks for the tip but I don`t fancy the extra weight of a keel band. And somehow don`t feel that the metal strip adds to the authentic look of a canoe.Sorry it`s just the way I feel about it.Thank you anyway

We haven`t had this weather for about 30 years.Infact it`s quite rare to see snow here before late December and then only for a day or so.The canoe goes back into the wo...

Thanks for the great remarks folks.Karl I got the plans from Newfound Woodworks. The design is called Abenaki and although I followed the plans almost to the letter I did hang the seats instead of setting them on permanently set runners. I followed Canoe Craft as far as possible although I did`nt qui...
