In reply at Ealger, the accent strip is not at the water line, but only there for visual effect on the hull.

Craig,

Personally, I use the method shown on the link bellow for my hatch to keep the deck clean from any straps.

Surprisingly, with the hidden shock cord, its still really tight and nothing is showing on the deck.
