If you are staining some and not others as you build, do a test first for bleeding. I used Behlen Solar-Lux jet black dye on parts of my boats and epoxy causes it to bleed, run and lift. I had to pre epoxy those parts and let it cure before I epoxied the whole boat. Other stains and dyes may or may ...

The curing time and how to reliably "clamp" the pieces during the cure was the reason I didn't use epoxy. Working with compound curves and hundreds of pieces of veneer would make a vacuum a logistical nightmare. The smallest pieces of veneer were no bigger than 1 square inch and the bigges...

The extra weight is considerable. But I attribute that to the magnets in the hatches as well as the glue and (hardwood) veneer. 25+ lbs over what the book specs for Endeavor. 68 lbs. Its not a big deal to me as I have to carry 50lbs of ballast when I'm day tripping without it loaded, just to sit it ...

No vacuum. Each piece of veneer was individually fitted and hand pressure rolled and hammered (mallet) into place. They are glue with contact cement. More than 140 pieces in one of the decks alone.

Extreme Veneering

Many years ago I theorizied that inlaying/overlaying a boat entirely with veneer would allow for infinite design possibilities and look really cool. Well here are the results of my "Endeavors". Pun intended. I don't think still images do them justice so I uploaded a video to Youtube. http:...

Storage

I was just wondering where people keep their boats. My garage which is insulated would be an ideal place were it not for all the other objects in there. I am considering the crawl space under my house. It is about 4 feet high and I have a large locking access panel. I'm worried about the non climate...

telescoping ferrule?

Does anyone know where I can get a telescoping ferrule (hardware only)? I have seen the adjustable ferrules that allow you to choose a feathering angle. Chesapeake Light Craft has those. Many new manufactured paddles also allow you to adjust the length of the paddle. I want to build a paddle with a ...

cargo capacity - cubic inches

Does anyone know how much cargo capacity, in terms of cubic inches, are in the Endeavor and the Resolute. I am a seasoned backpacker and can easily visualize how much space objects take from years of loading my pack. I really want to know how the cargo capacity of these two boats compare to my pack....
