Displacement for the Freedom 17 is listed at 420 lbs at a draft of 4.25". WL16 from the table of offsets is 4.25" above the bottom (1-08-0+ - 16 + 0.25)

A turks head knot tied around the shaft is a more "traditional" drip ring. It will fit any size shaft. For an even simpler drip ring just tie a a loop of rope (1/4" ish) around shaft. Leave a little extra pig tail of rope that will hang down towards the water. Water will drain down th...

Canoecraft Offset Revisions
After many years, I am finally ready to start on a Freedom 17. I seem to remember there being some revisions to the Freedom 17 offsets in Canoecraft. The link on the new Bear Mountain Boats website is broken. Does anyone have a copy of the revisions?

Titebond III is overkill for a paddle unless you plan on storing the paddle in the water. A few years ago I saw a paddle making demonstration by Brad Gillespie and I am fairly certain he used Titebond II. The only reason for using Titebond III would be to enhance the glue lines with a darker color. ...

Most of the builders I have talked with in the Rochester area get their cedar from Pittsford Lumber.
